Adult 1 and 2 or more rescuers CPR/AED
Steps and procedures should occur simultaneously with 2 or more
rescuers.
Emergency action steps
Assess Scene. If the scene is not safe or at any time becomes
unsafe, GET OUT!
Assess patient. Not moving? No response?
Alert. Shout for help. No help? Alert EMS or activate your
emergency action plan. Get the AED and oxygen.
Attend to the ABCD’s.
A Airway Open airway
Tilt head lift chin
Injury? –Jaw thrust.
B Breathing Check Breathing
Look, listen, and feel for 5, but no more than 10 seconds.
If no breathing, give 2 breaths that make the chest visibly
rise.
C Circulation. Check pulse
Check the carotid pulse for 5, but no more than 10 seconds.
Definite pulse? Rescue breathing. 1 Breath every 5-6 seconds.
No Pulse or uncertain? Immediately start chest compressions.

30 chest compressions.
Middle of the chest between the nipples
Push hard and fast (100xper minute). Allow the chest to recoil
completely. Minimize interruptions.
Continue 30:2 until an AED or EMS/
advanced providers arrive or the patient shows signs of life.
2 or more
Rescuers 30:2
Rescuer 1: 30 chest compressions
Rescuer 2: 2 rescue breaths. Make chest visibly rise.
Quickly change positions at least every 2 minutes.
Advanced airway in place: 1 Breath every 6-8 seconds. Compressions
100x per minute. No pause for breaths.
D Defibrillation
Expose the chest, turn on the AED. Select and attach the Adult
pads. Follow the voice prompts.
Shock advised: Clear and give 1 shock.
Immediately resume chest compressions.
No shock advised
Immediately resume chest compressions.
Continue 30 compressions, 2 breaths x 5 cycles.
Check the rhythm.
